Abstract

The double-contrast barium enema examination plays a major role in the investigation of lesions of the colon. However, even with meticulous technique, perception error can still limit the diagnostic potential of this study. The major problems
encountered with double-contrast examination of the colon include excessive false-positive rates from retained fecal material, redundancy of the sigmoid coln and flexures, diverticulosis. We experienced 3 false-positive cases of double-contrast
barium
enema, which was confirmed by colonoscopic examination.
